When it comes to spelling, I’m actually quite competent with the words I know. Having come to the States when I was 9 and not being studious when I was young, my vocabulary is okay but not extensive. Last week at work there was an opportunity to participate in a Spelling Bee, so I decided to give it a try.

First word: LYNX.
Easy as I’ve seen it before, though I asked for a sentence just for the heck of it.

Second word: PERMEABILITY.
This was actually a pretty easy word for me. Permeable, drop the E and add the ABILITY. No-problemo.

Third word: PHILAMOT.
Say what??? Nope, didn’t get this one, as I was way off. Asking for the definition and the origin didn’t help me.

So there we go. 2011 Spelling, and I got eliminated the first round. Still, playing spelling bee in front of an audience for the first time was fun.

I always dream of marring a rock star. It’s too late for that now. I guess I’ll make someone a rocker myself…hehe!

Now we just need to get some tattoos, a tongue ring and black eye liner. :-p

April 2nd, my life has been changed forever. I am no longer James’ only girl. I was kinda worried that James would put all his attention to the baby and I was right, but surprisingly I was OKAY with that. It’s still a big adjustment for me though. As a mom, I can’t eat whatever I want.  I can’t have my sushi after the long 9 months of sushi-less diet. I can’t go to the mall whenever I want. I have to watch dairy products ‘cuz we are worried that Lia is like James – Lactose intolerant. I can’t take my 8 hrs beauty sleep at night, but instead, I have to wake up every 3 hrs to feed Lia. My back and arms are always sore. I am always tired and I have vampire eyes, but when I see Lia’s cute little face smiling at me, it makes everything alright. Yes, April 2nd, my life has been changed forever.

After a nice 4.5 weeks on vacation bonding with Odelia and doing chores, I returned to work today. I’m sure Karen will be missing the pancakes that I’ve been making her for breakfast…

Every year it is good to set some new year’s resolutions. The key to making good resolutions is creating attainable, measurable goals, so here’s my crack at that list for the year of 2008:

1. I will post blogs more frequently, at least once a year.
2. I will keep the cleanliness of the house from being in disarray. The house shall never be compared to abandoned houses.
3. I will not leave my preopened oatmeal packages on the kitchen island after having emptied its contents, for longer than a 24 hour period.
4. I will not leave the soymilk container on the island when it is less than half empty, for longer than a 24 hour period.
5. I will not covet my neighbors’ gadgets. I shall not go out and purchase the same item within 24 hours.
6. I will work out everyday. Yes, that’s every single day. Of course, walking up and down the stairs should be considered step-aerobics…
7. I will wake up and get to work early everyday. The work day should start no later than noon.
8. I will sleep early every night. I need to be in bed and asleep before the sunlight is visible.
9. I will eat healthy and keep my cholesterol level under control. I will not eat any single fast food restaurant, such as McDonalds, more than once a week.
10. I will keep the TV watching under control. I will not use more than $20 in electrocity for powering on the TV in any given month.

There. Hopefully I can stay true to these goals for the year of 2008. Happy new year!

Karen had been wishing for some snow in Seattle for quite some time now, and tonight it all came true…  too true.  By the time I wanted to leave work, the anxiously departing cars were bumper to bumper all the way to P2 of the garage.  The Seattle Traffic site provided good information about travel times:

Travel time to Seattle 66 minutes
Travel time to Bothell 48 minutes
Travel time to Everett 93 minutes

There was only one minor detail missing:
Travel time to freeway: 100 minutes

I went back to my office, only to see a shuttle make its way across the driveway (span of 30 yards) in about one hour.  By then, I decided the best way to get home was… the number 11 bus.  My trusty feet.

Just to give you an idea of the situation:

No, none of those cars were moving.  On the way I encountered some miniature snowmen…

In the end, it took 45 minutes to walk home, but all I can say is…  home sweet home!

Karen and I dined at Jeem last night, and when it came time to pay, I pulled out the wallet and realized that my credit card was missing from its usual slot!  A slight flashback brought me to Red Robin, the last place I touched my wallet for lunch after church, so that must have been where it was…

We hurriedly paid with Karen’s credit card and drove over to Red Robin across the street.  The manager performed the security check by glacing at my ID and disappeared through the backdoor.  When he returned, his hands were empty and declared the bad news–card not found!  How could it be?!

“Who was your server?” he asked.

“I don’t remember.  I may have to report this card stolen, so can you check one last time?” I answered.

The manager strolled down the aisle and disappeared again.  Suddenly a revelation hit me–I may indeed have the receipt in my wallet.  I promptly opened it up and sitting in the bit fat slot was the receipt with the server name!  Then I checked in the other compartment, and there it was, the credit card!  To spare the manager the agony of realizing that the last 15 minutes was an exercise in futility, I thanked him and mentioned I’d look for it and left.  When we got back to my car, Karen asked, “Where’s your jacket?”

So back to Jeem we went…
